18 Wooster Street, New York
Barbara Kruger’s installation Power Pleasure Desire Disgust inaugurated Deitch Projects’ 18 Wooster Street space. Upon entering the gallery, the visitor experienced a cacophony of images and voices. Words were projected onto the floor and walls with images changing every eight seconds at twelve different intervals. Video images of closely cropped talking heads addressed the viewer from the ends of three twenty-two foot long tunnels. As the visitors approached the tunnels, the individual voices became clearer.
The talk was about love, hate disgust, power and the other subjects that trigger passion in everyday conversation. Some of the talk was humerous; some of it was brutal.
