Peter Klare: Home Furnishings

76 Grand Street

Deitch Projects presented Home Furnishings, a painting installation by Peter Klare, in its Storefront Gallery. The artist described his work as follows:

The subject of my art work is lower middle-class furniture of western culture.

Pieces of furniture are objects men build to surround themselves with, in order to make life more comfortable.

They contain information about being human and about western culture. In a certain way they contain the rules of how we think and how e structure the world we line in. They even represent the way we look at our environment.

In my art work I am changing the usual perspective on pieces of furniture, in order to reveal the aspects of structure, thinking and esthetics of our culture.

Peter Klare was born in Jena, Germany in 1969. He completed the MFA program in painting at UCLA in June 1998. His work was exhibited in Munich, Germany, Ubermain Gallery in Los Angeles and Dereck Eller Gallery in New York.
